EP 22 - Philip Schweigert - Why He's Donated to the NCSBS Every Month for 15+ Years

Philip Schweigert spent 45+ years of his career caring for, teaching and conducting research on behalf of children with severe and profound disabilities. During the past 15+ years, the latter part of his career on now into retirement, Philip has donated monthly to the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome (NCSBS), supporting our programs as well as spreading the word about shaken baby syndrome/abusive head trauma (SBS/AHT) prevention through his community.

Philip’s interview is the last of our 5-episode series celebrating the NCSBS’ 25 years of working to keep babies safe through shaken baby syndrome/abusive head trauma (SBS/AHT) prevention education. This series brings in a parent of a victim of SBS/AHT, a doctor, medical examiner, attorney and long-time donor to discuss how the NCSBS has impacted SBS/AHT prevention in their respective arenas.

In this episode, Philip discusses his career serving children with severe disabilities and their families. He served as a teacher for much of his career and held a special bond with one of his students who suffered from injuries inflicted by SBS/AHT. Philip witnessed many grandparents take on the responsibility of caring for their grandchildren with special needs and felt a particular charge to support them. Philip’s passion and expertise led him to present at one of the NCSBS’ international conferences, and his commitment to support families led him to his ongoing support for the NCSBS.
